It's a bit difficult giving advice when I don't know what you like and don't. <br>
<br>
One thing I find immensely impressive is the Forbidden City. Whether you're into old things or not, it's just an amazing place.<br>
<br>
The Temple of Heaven is another place that's worth a visit, there you can also see a lot of the locals hanging out doing tai chi, playing cards, playing with their kids etc.<br>
<br>
I always find just walking the streets, especially the small side streets, the so-called hutongs is really interesting, as yo?get a bit of a look-in on people's lives. <br>
<br>
These days there's a big pedestrianized street the Wangfujing, unfortunately they've knocked down all the old stuff so it's a bit sanatized, but again, it's great for people watching. <br>
<br>
South of Tiananmen Square there's the so-called Cultural Street with lots of oldish shops and restaurants.<br>
<br>
Beijing Duck is fantastic, it's nothing like what you get in the West. As is all the food. Do try something outside the big hotel restaurants, the difference is amazing.<br>
<br>
As you're there for such a short while I would not recommend going to the Great Wall, it's too far out and takes too much time.<br>
<br>
There's of course the Silk Market down an alley close to the embassy quarters.<br>

Yes, it's going to be cold, but should also be really interesting if you're up to going out a bit on your own. Taxis are dirt cheap, get your hotel to write down destinations for you and have a card with the name of your hotel on it - in Chinese.<br>
<br>
Have fun, it's a great place. Very big, lots of people but very enjoyable.<br>
