Australia's central bank has confirmed an interest rate rise is likely at some point, but its economic forecasts amount to a thinly-veiled warning that rates will rise faster than expected.
It's no secret the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) expects the mining boom to push Australia's economic growth rate into overdrive, risking a spread of rising wage inflation from the mining sector to the wider economy.
The quarterly monetary policy statement released by the RBA on Friday continued that theme.
"The experience of the first stage of the resources boom in 2006-2008 was that labour market pressures in the affected sectors appeared to be relatively confined in terms of their spillover into the broader labour market," the RBA said in the statement.
