FAQs About Skilled State Sponsorship and Visas in Victoria
I suggest you start at the FAQs link as the basic website that holds the Victorian State Migration Plan is not exactly friendly or easy to use.
To lodge an application you will need to register. The registration logon site had sent me an email confirmation before the registration process had been completed – it was odd!

The FAQs section seems to be only place you can find the Victorian governments specific requirements for Sponsorship. You need to be careful though as each of the two ‘Eligibility Lists’ hold occupation specific information that may relate to qualifications required or work experience they require. So read both very carefully.
You can download the Eligibility Occupational List pdf files from this link.

The Sponsored 886 list (which includes Skilled – Graduate (485) and Skilled – Recognised Graduate (476) visas) has a wealth of colour pictures but very few actual occupations.
The Sponsored 176 list (which includes the Regional Sponsored (475 and 487) visas) also has the colour pictures but there are more available occupations.
In the case of both lists the occupations are grouped by occupational category (eg – Building and Engineering Professionals). It is vital that you look closely at the ‘Specialisations / Considerations’ column to determine the highly specific requirements for each occupation.
My Comments
1. I guess it would be possible to make it harder to find out the basic information you need to make an application under this SMP but they have certainly managed to make what should be a simple process incredibly difficult to navigate.
2. They quote a processing time of 12 weeks – the application process is online – this seems crazy. Perhaps they are just attempting to manage expectations and they will be faster – let’s hope so.
3. The occupations they want are very limited and each has its own specific requirements that must be carefully checked before applying.
4. They do cross off occupations once they’ve reached their quota – this is good.
5. Generally quotas are going to be a problem for all SMPs in the way that the US Greencard system is basically all allocated, for the year, within 24 hours. It may turn out, at least in the early days, to be ‘apply immediately’ or at least early on or don’t bother as the quota will be full.
6. For 176 applicants you will need a minimum of two years work experience in your nominated occupation.
7. IELTS minimum is 6.0 in each band but many occupations have higher levels specified on the Eligibility Lists
8. As far as I can see it’s free to apply.
Disclaimer: Remember that the https://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au website must be your primary source of information and reference. My comments are only a guide and represent only my impressions of the SMP.
