This letter confirms we have received your application for Australian citizenship and now invite you to attend your citizenship appointment at which you may sit a citizenship test. If you included children in your application they are not required to attend this appointment.

Should you be unable to attend your appointment you should telephone our Citizenship Information Line on 13 18 80 between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday to make another appointment. When you telephone the department please quote your Client ID number which is located in the top left hand corner of this letter.

At the appointment, we will confirm your eligibility to apply for Australian citizenship, check your original documents, verify your identity and register you to take a citizenship test which includes taking your photograph.
What you must bring
Bring this letter and all original proof of identity documents, supporting documents, and overseas penal clearance certificates, if applicable, for yourself and each child included in your application to your citizenship appointment. These must be the same documents as the certified copies of documents you mailed with your citizenship application or listed in your online application form.
We will verify your identity using documents that contain information about you including your photograph and signature. We are authorised under the Australian Citizenship Act 2007 to request a photograph and signature from you. These are called personal identifiers.
We will take a photograph of you at the time of your appointment.
The documents and photograph used to verify your identity will be stored electronically in the department's computer system.
You must bring these documents to your appointment for your application to progress. Please refer to the document checklist at the end of this letter for more information.
Applications lodged online
If you lodged your application online bring your original documents and certified copies of those documents to your appointment. You must also bring a completed Form 1195 Proof of identity and declaration for yourself and each child included in your application. The declarations must be printed, completed and signed by an authorised person, and brought together with correctly endorsed photographs to your citizenship appointment.

Documents not in English
You must bring your original documents plus the English translations to your appointment.
If applying in Australia, you must use translators accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters. For more information, see www.naati.com.au. If you are outside Australia when applying, contact the Australian diplomatic mission in the country that issued the documents for advice on acceptable translators.

The citizenship test
Your appointment includes registering for and taking the Australian citizenship test. The test is conducted in English.
Taking the test
After the registration process, you will be allocated 45 minutes to complete a computer based test consisting of 20 multiple choice questions. If you have not completed the test within the time allocated, a result will be given based on the questions completed.
You will not be able to refer to study aids during the test. You may speak to the test administrator but you cannot speak to other people during the test. You will be required to follow these rules and appropriate standards during the test.
If you fail the test you can ask to take the test again. Where possible, you will be allowed to sit the test again on the same day. Otherwise, you may make an appointment to sit the test at another time.
How to prepare for your test
The Australian citizenship test questions are based on information contained in the book called "Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond". Please read this book to prepare for your citizenship test. You will not be able to refer to this book when sitting your test but it will assist you to prepare for the test.
A practice test, test tutorial and more information on how the test operates are available on the website www.citizenship.gov.au.

Processing times
The time taken for an application to progress and for us to make a decision varies. As a guide, when all documents are provided with an application, the application should be finalised within 60 days. When applications are more complex, your documents are not provided quickly or there is doubt about your identity, your application may take longer to finalise. You may discuss the processing time for your application at your appointment.
Withdrawing your application
You can withdraw your application at any stage. If you wish to withdraw your application, you must advise the department in writing.
Changes to your circumstances
It is important that you tell us about any changes to your circumstances including your name, contact details, address or children included in your application as soon as possible. You are required to do this in writing. Use Form 929 Change of address and/or passport details if you need to advise us of changes in circumstance.

What to bring to your appointment
Bring original documents for yourself and any children included in your application to your appointment. These original documents must be the same documents as the certified copies of documents you mailed with your citizenship application.

Proof of identity documents showing your photograph, signature, current residential address, your full birth details and your current name
For example, a current Australian drivers licence or identity card, and a bank or rent notice, and a full birth certificate. If you have changed your name since birth, bring evidence that links all previous and current names used. Official evidence from an Australian Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages is usually required for a name change after arrival in Australia
Evidence of your arrival in Australia and your current nationality, such as all passports or other travel documents
Overseas penal clearance certificates, if applicable

Documents for each child under the age of 16 years.
You must be the parent or legal guardian of children included in your application.
