飯局上認識一个台灣醫師,正在準備考这里的職照。聽他説需要到偏远地區服務十年之後,才可以自由
Thanks for sharing the information. It is called the 10 year moratorium. The official words are
"Overseas trained doctors (OTDs) and foreign graduates of an accredited medical school (FGAMS) are subject to the Medicare provider number restrictions under section 19 AB of the Health Insurance Act 1973 (the Act). OTDs and FGAMS are required to practise in designated districts of workforce shortage (DWS) for a minimum period to obtain Medicare access. This requirement remains in effect for a minimum period of ten years from the medical practitioner's first Australian medical registration and is referred to as the 'ten year moratorium requirement'."
DWS does not equal to rural and remote area, actually, some pretty popular areas in Brisbane like Calamvale, Runcorn and Eight Mile Plains are all DWS areas. Anyway, after I graduate, I plan to go rural for my training. The government now does offer some kinds of incentive to help cut the 10 year restriction period. If I'm willing to work in a really remote area, like small islands in northern queensland, the 10 year period can be cut to a minimum of 3 years. |
