The DB2 LUW Advanced Support Engineer, will provide level 2 technical support to clients with DB2 LUW database systems and related tools such as DB2 Client and connectivity related products. The clients will be from Asia Pacific and from around the world. The Asia Pacific (AP) support hub handles severity 1 (down systems) Problem Management Records (PMRs) as part of the worldwide 24x7 Follow-the-sun (FTS) program as well as non severity 1 PMRs. Working a shifted week, the engineer will specialize in performing and enabling remote technical support of IBM software and solutions involving DB2 running on Linux, Unix and Windows (LUW) platforms.
Provides level 2 technical support assistance to customers using problem determination/problem source identification skills. Works closely with the DB2 development lab to correct identified issues. Utilizes technical and negotiation skills in collaboration with other support operations/organizations to prioritize and diagnose problems to resolution. Communicates action plans to the customer as appropriate. Recommends and implements new or improvements to existing technical support tools, procedures, and processes. May provide training for and mentor others on the team. Contributes to department attainment of organizational objectives and high customer satisfaction.
This role requires working a shifted week including a rostered weekend and some public holiday days as the hub is one of 3 worldwide that provide 7x24 support 365 days a year.
Some or all of these skills and experience will be advantageous:
- Understands and applies knowledge of DB2 database servers including Data Partitioning Feature, connectivity and application programming tools.
- Experience with reviewing DB2 trap files, core dump analysis, db2support utility and DB2 tracing.
- Programming skills in some or all of SQL, C, C++, Java, assembly, .Net, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Perl, Python, Cobol, Unix shell scripting, Unix system calls, etc.
- Performance tuning experience of DB2 LUW servers and/or applications.
- DB2 Application development concepts, techniques and debugging/troubleshooting DB2 application related problems.
- Development knowledge of DB2 stored procedures, functions and user defined routines.
- Debugging problems related to CLI, OLEDB, ODBC, JDBC/JCC drivers in a client-server environment.
- Debugging and understanding distributed communication, network and application layer communication concepts, protocols such as data packets, DRDA, etc.
- Understands codepage related concepts in manipulating country specific data.
- Understands OS authentication and security concepts such Kerberos, PAM, LDAP, etc.
- Understands XQuery, XML and pureXML concepts.
- Understand Unix kernel parameters in relation to DB2 and Unix system administration.
- Knowledge of Websphere, Tivoli Storage Manager and it’s interaction with DB2.
- Familiarity with multiple Unix variants such as AIX, Solaris, HP-UX and/or Windows NT/2000
Required
Bachelor's Degree
At least 1 year experience in Manage Client Expectations/Satisfaction
At least 1 year experience in Use Problem Management/Tracking
At least 1 year experience in Use IBM Product Knowledge
