John was talking about one of his best girl friends, who got married last Sunday. He put ,on a sad face saying:
"I am so upset now for not being able to marry her, we were so meant to be together!"
Me: "Oh, bummer! I wonder why you didn't turn up at the wedding and propose to her?"
John: "I tried my best to swap the shift with someone, but nobody was able to help me out!"
Mary was recovering from her heart attack and keen to go home! Right after she had the procedure done, she was asking whether she could be discharged later the same day. I was explaining to her how it should be working in her treatment process, she cut my talks short pointing at the gentleman right next to her:
"He came in later than me, but he is going home this afternoon!"
I started teasing her: "Why do you use him as a reference, Mary? Are you trying to go with him?"
"Haaahaaa, I was just wondering how come someone came in later than me, but could go home earlier!" Mary laughed.
Me: "No, Mary! I am afraid you can't use the timing for the reference either in terms of going home. For instance, I only came in at seven o'clock, but I will be going home at half past three, will you be able to go home at the same time?"
Mary: "Haaahaaa, you made your point!"

How are you doing?
Please be mindful about what you have been up to on this site, which was launched by @MICHELLE07 about a year ago. Both Michelle07 and I have held this site dearly, it has been a long journey during which lots of friends have made valuable contributions to it.
Please be advised that we have been hanging our serous thoughts and passion onto it and we respect your input on it. But, whenever you throw in here the words such as the above, please be cautious about what outcomes they might turn out to be!
Your attention on this matter will be very much appreciated!!!

Thank you for your consideration for this post! Your kind assistance has been greatlyappreciated!
There was an issue in a patient's care that I believed to deserve an immediate medical attention on. After listening to what my concerns was about that particular issue, the doctor assessed the patient carefully and discussed with me why he wouldn't be over-concerned about it at that particular stage.
Noticed that I was completely convinced by his rationale for not acting on it, the doctor said: "Say, let's closely monitor the patient's condition and sit on (暂不予处理,继续观察) this issue for now. But I am quite happy to hand over to the night duty cover and ask him to reassess the patient before midnight!"
Totally came around to the doctor's decision, I got a mood to crack a joke with his statement: "No, no, no! Don't pass this issue onto the night cover, deal with it right now! Otherwise, knowing that you sat on it, he will sleep on it (暂不予处理,好好考虑,留待明天再定夺)!"

A few of my colleagues were talking about how much more strict the councils have become nowadays!
Mary said: "The sensors will be installed in all 2-hour parking spaces, so don't you ever play the lucky porker any more and hope you won't get caught if you run a few minutes late!"
Peter: "Nowadays, you just can't take for granted that you won't possibly be issued a ticket as a pedestrian who walks across the street randomly (Known as Jay-walk) if there is no incoming traffic. Please be mindful that any pedestrian won't be excluded from discipline and you are under close surveillance!"
"What are you thinking, Ping? You seemed a little bit distant!"
Me: "No, no, I have been with you all the time. But my thoughts just wandered a bit far, should I start training my dog (Harvey) not to walk across the street as he wants? I am bit scared that in the future, the councils are going after the pooches!"

Usually when people are training dogs for the special tasks, for instance, sheep-minding dogs, they blow the whistle in different tones and frequencies, which means different commands the dogs have to follow. With different commands, the dogs can guide the sheep to the tasks the owner wanted.
In the context you mentioned, I am not sure where this explanation can fit in! Do you mind posting a bit more story? I will ask around my friends and get back to you!
Thank you for bringing it up!

Hi Yiping, m so sorry for the late response.
Your comment is helpful, that makes sense. In addition to the above, I happened to get some further info from wiki, http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-whistle_politics , it says:
... Dog-whistle politics is political messaging employing coded language that appears to mean one thing to the general population but has an additional, different or more specific resonance for a targeted subgroup...
...The term can be distinguished from "code words" used by hospital staff or other specialist workers, in that dog-whistling is specific to the political realm, and the messaging referred to as the dog-whistle has an understandable meaning for a general audience, rather than being incomprehensible...
I'm still trying to find out what is the AU PM doing on the Iraq play.

There is not enough room to swing a cat形容空间狭小,很难容下那么多人
A cat doesn't mean the real cat, it refers to a special whip that made out of leather with 9 tails, just as shown in the following picture called A CAT OF 9 TAILS.
In the old days, the guards used to swing this kind whip at the prisoners if they behaved bad. The problem was that at some stage, the prisons were so crowed and stuffed, even though someone deserved the punishment, it would be difficult for the guards to swing that whip without hurting the well-behaved in-mates--Not enough room for the whip to travel a circuit! 打响鞭需要足够的空间让鞭子swing一个来回!
