My experience is just opposite. I employed a group of Chinese painters before, good price ,great quality, the attitude of the Chinese boss is very friendly too.
Then I employed a local Aussie, he almost charged more than 3 times more than the Chinese workers for the same amount of work. Every 30mins they need a smoking break. The quality is terrible too. The paint is start peeling down after 3 months. But I just put up with that because I don't want to see that guy anymore. We paid a lot of money but seems have to beg his to work , he just seat there looking at a young apprentice do the job. I have to push his fill the wholes in the wall before he do the job, later we change curtain, found he even did not paint the wall behind the curtain!
I really hate some locals, they are good at getting the business with great smiles and bullshit. Their face can change immediately after they get the deposit, last time is AU$600. In hindsight , I should just give up that 600, because I end up spending thousands for rubbish work and paint and nightmares too. He did the work for 3 days, but I spend several months to recover from that trauma.
There is another story about Koreans, maybe worse. They were outsources for a Chinese boss I was contacting. Next time I will insist hire Chinese workers. I always have good or better experience with them. Their price are not rip off, though not cheap.
It's important to get those good ones, reference is crucial.
