Significant changes of points for some occupations possible
A senior DIAC official in Brisbane last week made some pertinent comments about the
direction of the skilled migration program. In particular he identified that students
completing courses in cooking, hairdressing, accounting and welfare did not necessarily
have the desired affect of alleviating skills shortages in Australia. And that the skilled
program would try and address this by making sure we have a quality rather than a
quantitative outcome. Expect possible legislative changes soon in this regards.
It was also suggested that changes to the Business Skills program may now not take place
until 2010.

Allocation information of Skilled Visa applications
The greatest delay in processing of a skilled visa application is the time taken for it to be
allocated to a case officer. After this (in normal circumstances) a decision is normally made
in under 3 months. Here is the latest “allocation” times for the two processing centres of
Adelaide and Brisbane ..
ADELAIDE WEEK COMMENCING: “June” 2009
State or Territory Nominated Applications - once the department has
received and approved a nomination from a state or territory authority,
processing of the application will commence within 10 working days of that
approval. Should you need to, please lodge enquiries about your
application via: http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/forms/gsm/post.htm
Applications with a nominated occupation on the Critical Skills List
are being processed in date of lodgment order. Information about
the CSL can be found on the department's website at:
http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/g ... cal-skills-list.pdf
Priority Processing Exemptions
Visa Subclasses 485, 476, 487 and 887 are exempt from the priority
processing changes. Applications under these subclasses will continue to
be processed in the order in which they were received by the Department –
the following subclass by application lodgment date identifies cases
currently being considered:

VF 476 (e-lodged): 27 July 2008
