It will usually make decision after the deadline. but not every job advisement is true, especially in the government department. It is said that a government job position has to be advised on three different medias, even there is already a person the department and is ready to take that position.
If you are luck you can get it.
My wife found a government permanent job position on internet at 2:0pm of the deadline day in her office this year, she called the deaprtment and was told that the deadline time was 5:00pm. She told the department tha the deadline should be 12:00pm of the deadline day since there was no deadline hours indicated on the advisement. The department agreed to accept her application if she could send her application before 12:00pm on that day.
When she finished the application materials at 11:30pm this night. the online application program on the govenment internet has already automatically closed for that job. Fortunately she had written the contact person email and phone number. She finally sent out her application through email at 1:00am of the next day and exapained the late reasons.
She refused the first time offer providing starting level salary and requested a better salary offer (of course, still in the salary range for that position). She finally got what she wanted.
She is enjoying her job now.

The goverment department also release the result that who have taken that position. (usually on newspaper).
