Microsoft's Redmond campus burns down <br>

A major fire yesterday swept through Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, destroying more than half the buildings on the campus. Nobody was killed during the fire, but some firefighters and Microsoft employees have been treated for smoke inhalation.<br>
<br>
Among the buildings destroyed were Microsoft's main R&D centre, along with its Windows development building and sales building. Analysts are already speculating over what damage the fire will have done to upcoming products.<br>
<br>
"Of course a mature company like Microsoft has good back-up systems in place," said John Schmeller from consultancy Turner, Slzatz and Fischer. "But you have to assume that some damage was done to core products."<br>
<br>
Employees and others are anxious to hear the report on total damage, not expected to be due for a few weeks.<br>
<br>
Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer was on a business trip in London when he heard about the fire. He is said to be "very concerned".<br>
<br>
Bill Gates was initially assumed to be among the missing in the chaos following the outbreak, but has been safely located in his Washington home.<br>
<br>
Police and the Washington Fire Department have not yet released details of how the fire started. There have been reports, however, of a suspicious person in a penguin costume being sited on the campus with a jerrycan just before the fire began.<br>
