Opening an account
Once you have decided on NAB product to suit your needs, providing sufficient identification for opening the account is usually as easy as looking in your wallet or purse.
Under the Financial Transaction Reports Act introduced by the Australian Government, strict regulations were imposed on all banks and other cash dealers to identify new customers. These regulations require sufficient identification to be provided to score 100 points, with different forms of identification providing particular points.
100 points
* You have previously qualified for 100 points (identification procedures completed) at National Australia Bank.
70 points
(Only one form will be accepted from the 70 points category)
* Birth certificate
* Passport
* International travel documents
* Citizenship certificate
40 points
You have been a National Australia Bank customer for 12 months.
Written reference verifying your signature and 12 month association from:
* Another financial body.
* Another customer of National Australia Bank.
* An acceptable referee.
Name, photo and signature on:
* Driver's licence.
* Permits - Government issued.
* Public service ID card.
* Social security ID card.
* Tertiary student ID card.
35 points.
Your name and address verified by your current or recent employer (within two years).
Your name and address verified from:
* Land titles office records.
* Mortgage document
25 points
Your name, address and telephone number verified from the latest edition of the telephone directory. We will need to make contact with you on that number.
Your name on two cards from different banks score 25 points each, two from the same bank only score 25 points in total:
* ATM card.
* MasterCard.
* Visa card.
* Bankcard.
Your name on:
* Medicare card.
* Employment ID card.
* Council rates notice.
* Membership card - union, club, association, library, video library.
Your name and address verified from:
* Electoral roll.
* Landlord.
* Public utility records such as an electricity, gas, telephone bill or rate notice.
* Passbook/statement from another financial body covering at least the last 12 months' transactions.
* Driver's licence/Learner's permit (without photo).
* Car or boat registration certification.
Your name and address from:
* Education records from the last 10 years.
* Marriage certificate. |
