There are forty-five balls numbered 1 to 45 from which five are randomly selected. A sixth ball, the "Powerball", is then drawn from a separate machine containing another forty-five balls numbered 1 to 45. Powerball gives you more chances to win with seven prize divisions. You can win with as little as two winning numbers from the first five drawn plus the Powerball or just three winning numbers from the first five drawn.
The draw is televised each Thursday night at approximately 8.38pm on the Seven network and affiliate stations.
