标题: 请帮助看看这个out是怎样出来的？
新闻里的一句话，不是太懂：

The suicide bomber exploded a massive bomb in the hotel, carving a 15-meter wide crater out on the ground.

carving ... crater out on the ground，这里我不太懂，不明白为什么要用out。请高手帮忙解释一下，谢谢。

out是和on the ground连用的，"out on the ground"
