我儿子11岁也是国内5年级。他的英语和数学在国内最拔尖的孩子中都应该算是Top1%
当然他目前相当于国内初三水平的英语肯定是井底之蛙不能和澳洲Local孩子比。
我们全家PR已经获批。预计9~10月登陆。
我想能不能楼主拍些照片，把您孩子阅读的内容拍几张贴过来。
我们好有思想准备。
对澳洲孩子的英文水平和难度有个初步了解。

新电话太方便啦。。。

有些书她是反反复复地读，yr3 yr 4的时候有关恐龙的故事和harry potter是她的最爱，现在猫猫系列. 前两天，又回到harry potter

大水牛，你的儿子很优秀啊，如果比较成熟自律的话，你可以考虑让他跳级，聪明的孩子哪儿都一样。

我们孩子下个月底十岁，没有过多push，她又花太多时间play games and reading，所以华人中也就是average。

我觉得yr4就可以了，

每年提前会有奖学金考试，我们是考有50% 然后开始的补习，否则周末孩子就是computer game day了

为什么？因为有yr4 term 3 七月，有oc test, 选择孩子在yr5 & yr6 的学校，相当于国内的重点班

英才班  （Opportunity Class）

  是在澳大利亚新南威尔士州一些公立小学中，为了对成绩优异、天资聪颖的 Year 5 和 Year 6 学生予以精心培养，为他们提供更好学习环境而开设的班级。（相当于中国国内的小学重点班）undefined

  Year 5 英才班的录取过程与 Year 7 精英中学很相似。相应的考试称为英才班招生考试 (Opportunity Class Placement Test)，在每年的七月底或八月初进行，考试内容包括阅读、写作、数学和一般能力。
  NSW 公立小学和私立小学的学生都可以报读精英中学和英才班。其他州或海外的学生也可以报名，不过他们的家庭在学生入学时必须住在 NSW，而且打算在学生读书期间一直住在 NSW。
  英才班的报名材料，可以在学生读 Year 4 的当年五月份索取。

  oc和selective high school 都是要通过考试的，但英语和数学有一半分数是学校的打分，考试占另一半分数，写作和GA是只用考试分数的。考试就是和国内的考试一样了，是到指定的学校参加考试。
  以前的试卷补习班一大堆，网上应该也有。

精英中学 (Selective Schools)
是澳大利亚新南威尔士州对成绩优异、天资聪颖的学生予以精心培养，为他们提供更好学习环境的公立学校。（相当于中国国内的重点中学。）
精英中学 Year 7 学生的录取，主要是根据学生在校内的平时成绩以及在每年举行的精英中学考试中的成绩来评估他们的学习能力。校内成绩在报名时由学生所在学校提供。

精英中学Year 7的报名材料，可以在学生读 Year 5 的当年十月份索取。
从学生所在的公立学校或各中小学教育机构办公室索取申请表。用英文填写申请表。将申请表递交给学生所在小学的校长，由校方填写评语，并附上英语和数学的学校评分。由校长把申请表寄给精英中学和英才班招生办事处。所有的公立学校都提供学校成绩。大部分的私立学校将处理申请表，但不一定总能提供学校成绩.

精英中学考试在学生报名之后下一年的三月份举行，由阅读、写作、数学和一般能力几个部分组成。
在下一年入读 Year 8 至 Year 12 的报名材料，可以在当年六月份索取。
精英中学 Year 8 至 Year 12 学生的录取，是依据每个学校的录取委员会设定的标準来评估他们的学习能力。评估方法包括内部和外部测试、对学科竞赛成绩的仔细评估，以及面试。

报读精英中学时，最多可以申请四所学校。
如果是报读 Year 7，请在报名表中按优先顺序填上你的选择。如果你有资格入读多所学校，你只能得到按照你的优先顺序排在最前面的学校名额。
报读 Year 8 至 Year 12 时，你最多可以选择四所学校，但需要分别填表并寄给这些学校。

这些考试每年只考一天，而且只在 NSW 公立学校举行。如果学生生病或有一些其它意外情况，家长可以递交一份疾病/意外事件声明要求照顾。疾病声明必须附有考试当天的医生证明。如果有学校成绩单，可以用来对学生进行评估；如果没有学校成绩单，可以根据其它证据，例如个人 IQ (智商)测试，对学生进行评估。
如果学生在考试期间不在 NSW，你可以使用其它州或海外学习能力报告书 (the Interstate or Overseas Report of Academic Merit)。在这种情况下，学生必须提供一份标準化阅读测试，一份标準化数学测试，一份写作例文（仅适用於报读精英中学），以及由有资格的专业人士进行的一份 IQ 测试。

所有的决定都是由每个学校的招生委员会做出的。招生委员会考虑每个学生所获得的分数和其它任何现有的依据。每个学生都会收到入选、落选或列入备选名单的通知。
什么是“OC班”？OC班其实就是国内常说的精英班。孩子读小学四年级时，即参加OC班的选拔考试，考上了则集中到有OC班的学校上课。偌大的悉尼只有为数不多的几所学校有OC班，故考上OC班的孩子应该都是“精英”和“超智”。OC班只读两年，六年级第一学期就要参加精英中学的选拔考试。一般说来，只要考上了OC班，要考精英中学就如探囊取物，而考上精英中学后，上好大学、好专业几乎可以说是板上钉钉。。。。

华人来澳洲打天下往往从零开始，比起在这里生活了一两百年的西方人输在了“底子”上，故大家都不愿再输后代，于是让孩子考OC班便成了生活中的一大目标。据一份调查显示，在悉尼考上大学的学生只有三成来自公立学校（其中大多是精英中学的学生），另外七成则来自私立学校。新南威尔士州排名前50位的学校里，公立学校仅有15所，其余均是私立学校，而15所公立学校里竟然有14所是精英中学……像有钱有地位的西方人那样送孩子上私立学校，固然是一个不错的选择；但对于初来乍到的新移民，这无疑是一笔不小的开支。所以先上OC班，再考精英中学，显然就是一条“多、快、好、省”的成才路子，于是很多华人打破脑袋也要让孩子挤进OC班。
　　
挤？怎么挤？自然就是花钱让孩子上补习学校喽。也许是天分使然，华人孩子的数学普遍不错。但这个“不错”也并非能把所有的考试漏洞堵住，故上补习学校“补漏”就显得很有必要。至于英文更有必要进行恶补了，那些在国内念了几年书后才来澳洲的孩子尤其如此。事实上，在华人多的地方，各种补习学校和补习班就会应运而生，有的生意还十分“火爆”。
　　
上好的补习学校，费用一般为每小时35澳元（相当于人民币210元左右），当然各地区收费也不尽相同。像英文、写作、数学等科目，每周若补习几小时，花费约为150澳元。如果再送孩子去学钢琴、舞蹈等培养“素质”的课程，那一周至少得花250澳元。据一位做小本生意的华人朋友说，他女儿读六年级时，同时上了3个补习学校，每周的开销在700至800澳元之间。不过，这点费用若与上私立学校相比，那就是“小巫见大巫”了。由于澳洲地广路远，出门得靠汽车，所以但凡孩子补习，家长还得负责接送，有时原本轻松休闲的周末就这样被耗在了路上。
　　
“辛苦是辛苦，但想着孩子有一个好前途，还是觉得值！”这位华人朋友如是说。尽管平日少言寡语，但只要说起那争气的宝贝女儿，他立刻眉飞色舞起来。也不知是补习起了作用，还是华人孩子本来就聪明、勤奋，我认识的一些孩子都考上了OC班和精英中学。据说，有些学校OC班里的学生，几乎是清一色的黄皮肤、黑眼睛，其中若混有一两个白皮肤、蓝眼睛的孩子，便是很稀奇了。近年来，悉尼“高考”成绩列前10位的学生，华人孩子往往占了一半或一半以上。其中，越是在底层打工的华人越抓得紧，其孩子考上OC班和精英中学的比例也超过了白领华人的孩子。

每周给作业 ga math english creative writing 上课讲解
mock test 可以看出孩子学习中的弱点
我们在yr4补习里，发现学校很多东西没教，或没有强调，孩子不会，而且是oc 考试内容

餐厅的manager 说每天都需要volunteer，特别是中午准备lunch order，非常的忙

我女儿Kindy，做Year1~2的英文词汇，叫她爸辅导。她爸基本得靠google。
阅读year1-2基本达到雅思G类阅读水平。

数学很多时候应用题也是考英文的。题目读不懂还是做不来。所以抓紧时间多补补英文吧。

孩子在HOLIDAY和周末经常玩COMPUTER GAME, 所以在NORTH SHORE 组织BOOK REVIEW写作的时候，我便劝她参与，写最熟悉的GAME REVIEW，孩子听话，如期写下她最熟悉的GAME， BIG LITTLE BANG,

多谢LZ详细的介绍。
我儿子今年9周岁，在国内刚读完3年级，9月份长登悉尼，正在犹豫是否让他读3年级，明年一月份读4年级，这样还有点时间补上英语，明年5月份也许可以试试考OC班。
孩子在上海上普通公立学校，英语基础比零好一点点，所以非常担心，不知道他什么时候可以独立阅读英语书。中文阅读能力还可以，可以独自完成哈里波特，西游记，皮皮鲁系列书的阅读，有较好的阅读习惯。
移居另一个国度另一个城市，一切从头开始，心里很是忐忑，尤其担心耽误了孩子的学习。

我认识好几个不读私校没进oc,但是读上精英的.王道就是补课
还知道有个读排名200多的普通小学,考上JR的,这个真佩服

关于中文，现在每周五中文课，效果不显著
daddy 帮她复习，还不积极。惩罚她一周 no entertainment: no ipad, no TV, no computer...

用不着买新书，到图书馆里都能借到，除非他特别喜欢的保留书，还有到charity shop， vinnes 都能买到几刀的原版书，以前到书店买，太贵啦，而且小孩子看书很快的

School holiday is coming, 今天请了4天的annual leave, and paid $285 for the first week 5 days pre-uni holiday class. i think that is good price.

Same price, u also can get tennis camp or art painting holiday camp....or any vacation holiday care.

But now it is special time for my daughter, facing next year Selective Test, would be better to get more time on study. Hope everything will be OK.

我家小的在per uni从三年级半补到考完selective感觉挺好的。我们也不管他，就摧他记得完成功课!
不过他有一个同学蛮厉害的，从小母亲在家买来书给他做，外面从没䃼过，他oc及selective全考进，我蛮佩服的!

可以的，前提是所有家长都抵制补习班，华人家长做得到吗？
华人、印度人对孩子的期望值是非常高的，生怕孩子输在起跑线上

虽没想过上私校，但当作一次练兵还是不错的

Private and Independent Shchools Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships entitle students to a full or partial remission of tuition fees. Competition for these scholarships is extremely high as there are only 40 or so boys and girls schools in Sydney offering only a few scholarships each. The main points of entry are Year 7 and 11, with some schools offering scholarships at Year 9 level also. Academic merit is the most important selection criteria. However, private schools place as much emphasis on co-curricular activities, which means scholarships are offered to students who are high achievers not only in academics but also in other activities such as music and sports. Students offered a scholarship are expected to maintain their level of high academic achievement throughout high school.

Firstly, find out a little about the schools which you would like your child to attend. Scholarship application forms are usually available at the beginning of the year, but a few schools hold the scholarship test in Year 5 for Year 7 entry so it is advisable to ring the school well in advance to find out exactly when the test will be held. Once you have selected the schools to which you would like to apply, ring the schools directly. The school will take down your details and send you a Scholarship Application Form and usually a school prospectus as well. Make sure the form is filled out and sent to the school with appropriate payment before the closing date. The school will then contact you regarding details such as exam venue etc.

The testing takes approximately 3 hours. Students are given multiple choice Mathematics, English and Aptitude tests. There is also a creative/essay writing component in the test. Test format may vary slightly from school to school. Many schools participate in the ACER cooperative exam. This exam is set by ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research) and is taken by participating schools at the same time on the same date.

After having sat for the test, all applicants are sent a response whether successful or not. Some schools will select students based on information provided on the application form and the results of the test. Other schools will shortlist students and then select successful students following an interview with the student and his/her parents.

There is no harm in applying. However, unless the child has a realistic chance of being offered a scholarship, preparing for the exam and waiting for the results may place unnecessary pressure on the student. Each child is different, so if parents consider that a negative outcome will not be detrimental to their child in any way, then there is no reason to not give it a try

ACER Scholarship Tests

The ACER Scholarship Tests consist of a series of academic ability tests used to select students for the award of a scholarship. Independent schools around Australia choose a testing date which best suits their school needs. Schools can choose to take part in a cooperative program where schools share results, or to hold the test on a date of their choice where candidates must sit at the school on that date.

To sit the test, candidates must register and pay for each school through the schools' websites.

New South Wales

Schools in NSW can offer scholarships at Primary and/or Secondary level.

Please note that schools choose at which year levels they will be offering scholarships, and you will need to view each school’s website to check if a scholarship for your child’s year level is being offered. If you register for a scholarship test and are ineligible and require a refund, you will be charged a $30 administration fee and will not be refunded for preparation material that has already been dispatched.

Which schools in my state are using the ACER Scholarship Tests?
The Participating Schools List shows which schools are using the ACER Scholarship Tests in 2013 (for entry into 2014) in NSW.

What test level should I register my child for in NSW?
Primary:
If your child will be entering Grade 4, 5 or 6 (in primary school) in 2014, you need to register for the Primary scholarship test.
Secondary:
Register for Level 1 if your child is entering Year 7 or 8 in 2014.
Register for Level 2 if your child is entering year 9 or 10 in 2014.
Register for Level 3 if your child is entering year 11 or 12 in 2014.

Cooperative program schools:
South Australia:          Saturday 9 February 2013
All other states:          Saturday 23 February 2013

Each alternate program school will advertise their scholarship test date on their website.

When do registrations open?
From Monday 10 September 2012 for cooperative program schools.  For alternate date schools, check the school website.

When do registrations close?
Cooperative program schools:
South Australia:          Midnight CDST, Sunday 20 January 2013
All other states:          Midnight AEST, Monday 4 February 2013

NO late registrations will be permitted.

For alternate date schools, check the school’s website – you can access school websites through the Participating Schools link on the left hand side of the screen.

How much does it cost to register?
A fee will be charged for each school you register for.  The fee will be advertised on the school website.

How do I register my child?
Go to the school’s website and follow the instructions for 2014 entry scholarships.  Further information is available by clicking on the Student Registration link to the left.

Are non-Australian residents/passport holders eligible to apply for a scholarship?
Each school decides which candidates are eligible to register for their test.  Please check with the individual school prior to applying if you are a non-Australian resident/passport holder.

Junior Academic Scholarship

Criteria and steps to apply: Junior Academic Scholarship

(available each year for Year 7 entry - Level 1)

• Candidates to be under 13 years of age on 31st December of the examination year

• The ACER Scholarship Testing Program, at Primary Final standard, will be held at the College or an additional centre (country candidates and, in some areas, for overseas candidates)

• All applications must be made online through the ACER website

• Candidates must submit a 300 to 500 word (ignore the ACER word limit) autobiographical essay indicating their special interests and the contribution they would make to the life of the College. Please insert the essay into the 'Supporting Statement' text box in the online registration

• A number of full scholarships are available, determined by results in the ACER examination and successful interview. Amongst the scholarships awarded will be a minimum of two scholarships for internal applicants from our Junior School

• Successful candidates must commence first year work of the Secondary Course

• The scholarships cover tuition fees (excluding extras) for six years.

Please note that WGHS operates its own extension class for selected students in Year 7. Year 6 students are invited to sit the placement test in the year prior to actual enrolment, usually a Saturday mid-March. Details are provided to all feeder primary schools and are advertised in the local papers. More information is available from the school.

私校更难一些。。因为是百里挑一，还是好学生的百里挑一。。。

总之，都不容易，特别是这都关系到以后的6年学习，不仅孩子还有家长将付出的辛苦

孩子自己也知道考试的重要性

2周后就是第一所private school scholarship test - Ravenswood college

今天抽空把三所学校都围观啦一下，三所学校周末门关的很严实，我们只是看外观
Ravenswood和PLC 都不错的好学校，地大环境好，Wenona很小，但离家近，旁边就是NOrthsydney library 非常方便

当然，私校的奖学金不是一般孩子可以考上的，由于今年没有补习，也没报Pre Uni和其他学校的预考，所以把私校的考试当预考来练兵
费用其实是差不多的。只是多了一种可能性。 lucky的话，结果会更好

对于工薪家庭，负担私校是一个沉重的负担，除非孩子有能力拿到全奖。。

这多么优秀的孩子的竞争，一定会很激烈，不过抱着尝试与参与的精神，一切顺其自然

考私校奖学金需要擅长乐器吗?

奖学金考试
一般是academic, 音乐，绘画， all around...等等的分类奖学金

例如ravenswood, yr7共4个全奖，两个academic, 一个musical , 一个all around，所以竞争还是蛮激烈的，而且在别的学校考场也有考这个学校的考生
所以参加考试的远远不止100名了
