TELSTRA's revenue from technology services tumbled more than 6 per cent to $585 million in its 2007 financial year after the telco offloaded a number of business units owned by its Kaz division.
The company also suffered a slide in managed network services revenue from $316 million a year ago to $265 million as it worked through an aggressive restructure of its services businesses to align them more strongly with its new Next IP network.
But the news was not all bad and Telstra reaped a number of benefits from the restructure, including a $43 million net gain from the sale of Kaz Group's Australian Administrative Services (AAS) superannuation unit in August last year.
Telstra reported in its full year accounts today that the net gain for AAS was made on a sale price of $231 million. It also reported that it offloaded Kaz's Atune Financial Solutions arm for $4 million.
While Kaz made a number of sales during the year to June 30, it also took full control of Enhanced Processing Technologies for $1 million. Kaz had previously held a 60 per cent stake in the business.
The sales and purchases came as Telstra revamps Kaz to focus the services unit more firmly on selling products that capitalise on the carrier's recently launched Next IP network.
Restructuring in the year to June 30 included the AAS and Atune sales and at least 200 redundancies in May, which accounted for almost 7 per cent of Kaz's workforce at the time.
Since the close of the financial year Telstra has sold Kaz's business process outsourcing operations to Fuji Xerox for an undisclosed sum.
