Chased up the Vic State Reveune Office and Land Registry to work out how to put another name onto a Title or to remove an existing name. In my situation, wanting to have my de facto partner put onto the title as Joint Tenant in equal 50:50 shares.

From my understanding of the conversation held with the SRO - Payment of any outstanding mortgage is not of their concern. There is no stamp duty payable due to the 'Natural Love and Affection' rule. I 'think' that a normal registration of transfer costs $213, although this fee may be much reduced for instances of transfer where natural love and devotion is involved.

Step 1 is to visit the SRO website ( www.sro.vic.gov.au ) and download .pdf Form 10 "Transfer between Domestic Partners", fill in and sign. Ring SRO to ensure this is the correct form for your individual circumstances. They may suggest another form number.

Step 2 - Contact the Land Titles Office on (03) 8636 2010 and ask them to send out a blank Transfer of Land document and guide book. Explain what you want to do so that they can send you the correct document for your circumstances. Their website is www.land.vic.gov.au
The document cost is around $5.00 posted to you. They suggest that you read the guide book carefully then fill in the forms, sign, date and witness.
Send both documents to the SRO and stay tuned. The SRO will send it on to the Land Titles Registry onced they have finished processing the two documents.

They suggested that a solicitor should not be required.

Will tell more as it becomes available to me.
