Hi, I graduated from BUPT and now in Melbourne.

There is a rule in BUPT: If in the end of the first semester your GPA is the top 5%, you can change to other course you like if you want. So he can go to BUPT and put more effort on studying and meanwhile attend student union or something like that (contributing points to the final GPA), it is of high probability that he can change his major. It was my understanding that no all the students will work hard in the first semester.
