Fines apply if you carry fruit and fruiting vegetables into the Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone (FFEZ) in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

On-the-spot fines apply to a member of the public found travelling into the Zone with fresh fruit and fruiting vegetables as this is one of the primary ways in which fruit fly can be introduced into regions that are otherwise fruit fly free.

Fines may go as high as $100,000 and both random and permanent roadblocks operate in and around the Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone and the Greater Sunraysia Pest Free Area.

To be safe, do not bring fresh fruit or vegetables into the Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone and remember, you should not take any fruit or vegetables over state borders into New South Wales, South Australia or Victoria.

Approaches to the Zone are clearly signposted and disposal bins are provided on major transport routes.
