I will give a complete update for the discussion about Skillmax, EFE and AMEP in AMES.
Actually, AMES is the name of the institution which provide language service to new immigrants to Australia. The full name of AMES is Adult Migrant English Service. These services can be free for some candidates with requirement matched.
The service that AMES provides includes AMEP, EFE and Skillmax. All these services can be looked as a path from low level to high.
AMEP means Adult Migrant English Program, which includes English course equal to Certificate I, II and III. This program also include English linked Skills program, such as Certificat in Aged care work, Children's services, Hospitality, Business and Retail Operation, etc. It can be applied with IELTS lower than 5.5, if the rest requirement matches. After finishing the free 180 hours of course, you can join the IELTS at half price.
Skillmax is the top of the course path, which requirs 6.0 for IELTS. It is not an English language course as the entry level is high for English language. It only focus on the job seeking skill in Australia, which also helps you to understand the culture background of Australia.
EFE (English for Employment) is in the middle between AMEP and Skillmax. The 9 week course combine both English language skills and job seeking skills and that is why it is longer than Skillmax. The teacher will take time to improve your language skills such as pronunciation. Of course, the requirement of enrollment is lower, with IELTS above 5.5.
It is depended on yourself which course to selet. Please consider the purpose and your own English language skills and apply for the right course. For detail information, please check the official NSW AMES website: http://www. AMES.edu.au |
