An Australian Declaratory visa (ADV) is an entry document that is only issued to Australian citizens who hold a foreign passport and who have compelling reasons for returning to Australia without using their Australian passport. Australian citizens must normally use an Australian passport to
enter Australia. However there are some exceptions and an ADV may be issued:
• to allow a child under 18 years of age to travel on the same passport as a parent, where that parent is not an Australian citizen;
• in an emergency situation that prevents an Australian citizen from travelling on an Australian passport, such as where the normal arrangements for the issue of an Australian passport are not feasible;
• in a compelling situation where an Australian citizen would be genuinely at risk if they travelled to their country of other citizenship with an Australian passport. * 一般适用的也只有这一条
As an Australian citizen, if you do not qualify for an ADV then you will need to carry a current Australian passport to return to Australia.
