Police are on the look-out for a silver or white Audi used during at least two attempted robberies in Sydney today.
However it is not yet clear if the car is the same as that used in attacks on ATMs in the early hours of this morning.
Police want anyone who sees the Audi, with NSW registration plates ALD-999, to phone triple-0 immediately.
The appeal comes after three men used a silver Audi as a getaway car after blowing up an ATM at Chester Hill, in Sydney's south-west, about 1.45am.
Detective Inspector Geoff Leonard, from the property crime squad, said that robbery was successful.
On the other side of Sydney an Audi was used in an attack by four men on an ATM at Clovelly.
When the explosion damaged the Audi, the four men split up. Two of them carjacked a man and a woman in a nearby street and stole their 1998 model white Toyota Corolla, registration VMO-070.
Police are now appealing for anyone who sees the Corolla, which they expect has been abandoned, to phone police on 1800 333 000.
The two carjackers were in their early 30s, of medium build, wearing heavy clothing and with their faces disguised.
A police spokesman said it was too early to say whether the car used in the two robbery attempts was the same as that used in the ATM attack.
He could also not say if the car was stolen.
The first robbery attempt occurred about 12.20pm, when three men wearing balaclavas allegedly entered a Westpac bank branch on Rocky Point Road, Ramsgate, police said.
Staff immediately activated the security screens and the men left the bank empty handed, police said.
No one was injured and no weapons were seen.
It was believed one man was of Islander appearance and one man of Asian appearance, police said.
A short time later, two men wearing balaclavas allegedly entered an RTA office on Stoney Creek Road, Beverly Hills, jumped over the security screen and took some cash.
No one was injured and no weapons were seen, police said.
Witnesses at both incidents told police they saw a silver or white Audi with number plates ALD-999.
It is believed the car used in the robbery attempts at Ramsgate and Beverly Hills has also been used in attacks on other premises, police said.
Police urge anyone who sees the car to phone triple-0.
