前几天听说medicare levy surcharge预算案通过了，将有25万人立即享受到高达1400元的税务优惠。最大改变是个人收入7万或者家庭收入14万的人不再需要支付1％的税。
请问消息属实？何时生效？是否意味着不必买私人医疗保险去避税了？

家庭taxable income 14万及以下的不用交那1%。这个财年啊。

哦，也就是说，如果仅仅为了避税的话，可以马上退掉medibank了？但又担心以后重新加入medibank享受不到目前的优惠了，而按照我以后加入的年龄给优惠

This new policy takes effect from 01/07/2008 (current financial year). People that has an income below the threshold does not need to buy private medical insurance and does not need to pay the surcharge.

The current threshold is 70K for single and 140K for famliy.

The person that has an income over the threshold and does not have private medical insurance will no need to pay surcharge as well on condition that he/she buys the private medical insurance before 1st Jan 2009.

That is it. Good news for someone like me.

suspend 不是随便就能做到的，要求各种条件
