Thank you for your email considering HSBC for your Australian banking needs.
For queries regarding opening HSBC Australia Bank accounts from abroad, you need to contact your local HSBC Branch.
Firstly, check if your local HSBC branch has an International Business Centre (IBC) that is able to assist with the account opening forms and requirements. If this can be arranged, your next step would be to check with your local HSBC branch if they can assist with completing HSBC Australia’s account opening requirements.
You will be able to open the Online Savings Account and provide your tax file number on arrival into Australia.
Please note, however, you will be charged Non Resident Withholding Tax – it is applied when the account holder declares himself/herself as non Australian Resident for tax purpose. It is 10% of the credit interest amount (not applicable if less than AUD1.00).
The Serious Saver Account can only be opened by Australian Residents. Non-Australian Residents are able to open a Term Deposit.
If you would like to contact us, please reply to this email or alternatively call HSBC's Customer Service Centre on 1300 308 008 Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm (AEST) or +61 2 9005 8187 if calling from overseas.
