Just make a research on my career, depressed

Just search mycareer.com.au and make a rough conclusion about the requirements of my career, it seems difficult to reach the general requirements for a new planner.

Now I'm so confused about these two questions:
1, what should I do as a beginner to prepare or prove these abilities like analytical skills, problem solving and decision making, using specific examples to prove or just through a good performance in the interview.

2, A graduate who has not the abilities of providing advice to clients and assessing planning proposals, how could he or she enter into this field at first?

And everyone, do you think the following requirements (basic and general ones I defined) are high for a normal graduate?

Tertiary qualified in planning
Drivers licence
Good computer based skills with the ability to learn
Good verbal, written, communication, presentation skills
Good analytical skills
Problem solving and decision making skills
Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and all related Council policies and all relevant State Government policies and amendments

• General responsibility and requirements
Writing: Prepare plans and amendments
            Witting letters, reports and statutory planning documents
            Assist in panel hearings and report back to council on rezoning issues

Speaking: Counter and phone enquiries
              Providing advice to clients
              Liaising with other departments of Council on Statutory planning matters

Solving problems: Assessing and processing a range of town planning applications
                         Produce research of planning issues to support planning reports
                         Possibly VCAT appearances

• Higher levels of requirements
Substantial experience in the relevant planning field
Experienced in a statutory planning environment
Experience in Local Government planning
Leadership

• Extra requirements for some positions
Site inspections
Deal with the applications of heritage, commercial & apartment development

I was a grad before.  I've been to five or six interviews, and not of them asked for any specific technical skill or industrial experience, they are really concentrate on the people skills and soft skills

1. Problem Solving
2. Team work
3. How you handle issues

Usually, they will ask you to provide some sort of examples, such as in your uni group work, where your team had a problem, how do you solve them?

The job description you pasted, sounds like you senior position. It is hard to convince the employer as you only graduated from the uni. Employer will need to spend time and money to train you. Believe me or not, what you learn in Uni will not be sufficient in the job. You need to learn different tools and methods from workplaces.

But if you think you can do it, put your resume in.  However, you need to prepare it in a way to at least convince the hiring company that you have most of the skills, if not all. For example, describe your industrial training, Uni Project works.. Also, have your give advice to your family, and friends on planning, that counts as industrial experience. Instead saying work before and got industrial expereince, you can say you understand the process and how it works..


Dealing with clients, have you ever worked before, any service industry, even restaurant that counts as customer service.
What you put down will be bit high for graduate as you are asking for experience. If you get rid of the industrial experience requirement,  then i think it is okay for grad to apply

I think you are right, I can explain my skill from the uni. performance like group works
Maybe most jobs agencies provide on the internet are at senior  level

dont be affraid,  just think... everyone are starting from scratch..they have done that and become a senior in their respective field.. and now it is your turn.. you are on your jouney to the next level.. Employer want everything, but 9 out 10, they will not get what they want.. they might see you as a suitable cadidate despite you dont process all the skills they need.. you never know...  just apply for any positions that you think is suitable...no harm to put your resume in. If you put it in, at least you get a chance, or even some expereince in job interview. It might land you a good job later... if you dont put anything in, you will never get it..

I havn't completed my degree, I just make a research on it to know what should I prepare for my further career, anyway, what you said gives me much confidence, and after reading your advices, I think I should participate in some relevant projects to accumulate substantial experiences.
