I've been in oz for one year. My listening skills improve greatly, 'cause I have a lot of chance to listen, but unfortunately, my pronunciation is a big issue. Bigger problem is it's very hard for me to change my accent, because I am not aware of my problem until somebody tells me.
For example, it seems to me that the following pronunciations are the same:
he as hey
her as here
....
I can't realize my wrong pronunciation until somebody points it out. Some English learners suggest me to record my voice then replay it, but it doesn't work for me. I can't find the difference between my real voice and the recorded voice. It's very frustrating. Sometimes it drives me crazy.
For example, it seems to me that the following pronunciations are the same:
he as hey
her as here
...
People can not get you wrong on He and Hey, they are for totally different scenarios
In most of cases under a certain context, people are confirming/matching what they expect to hear. It's easy for them to understand us though our pronunciation might be confusing.
The most difficult thing is to talk with a bad none-english speaker(just as bad as the counterpart) without a clear context....
On the first day I got three monitor on my desktop, one of my colleagues yielded to me, "star treck",
I was confused, later he explained to me - lots of screens - just like what you see in that show -- every one got a few monitors in front of them when they sit down.
I knew that movie and watched few episodes but it was hard for me to create such a legend without any tips.
