越来越多的（阻街女郎），把该区（highgate）变成了 hell on earth，该区的居民不堪其扰。

Street prostitution in Highgate has turned the area into "hell on earth" for residents, City of Vincent mayor Alannah MacTiernan says.
Ms MacTiernan said yesterday the problem was worsening and she was shocked by some stories she heard at last week's community meeting on Stirling Street, where street walkers are most prevalent.
"One mother was saying her 14-year-old girl hates coming home from school because she is constantly confronted by kerb crawlers," she said. "Other women are saying they walk out of their house and (men in) cars come up saying, 'What's your price?'
"Residents are saying a lot of street walkers can be very aggressive. Some people have had them doing business on the furniture on their front porch, or trying to get inside their houses."
More than 60 residents raised concerns at the meeting, prompting the council to consider improved street lighting. "We've really got to jump on this problem," Ms MacTiernan said. "It is escalating and creating a very unpleasant environment which is severely compromising the enjoyment of many people, particularly women.
"This part of Highgate is hell on earth for women."
Det-Sen. Sgt Noel Gartlan, from Perth city detectives, said 24 people had been charged with seeking a prostitute in public since January 2010 and 12 street prostitutes had been charged with seeking clients.
He said police were aware of residents' concerns and regularly patrolled the area and would continue to do so over summer.
"Those committing offences against the Prostitution Act will be prosecuted and terms of imprisonment may apply," Det-Sen. Sgt Gartlan said.
Property owner Rob McCormack, who organised the meeting, said most residents had similar concerns.
"People say they are constantly being harassed by either street walkers or kerb crawlers, depending on their gender," he said. "We've also seen quite disturbing levels of violence here . . . it is a highly volatile situation."
Ms MacTiernan feared the situation was returning to the levels of 10 years ago.
"This problem is extraordinary, the level of activity is huge," she said. "There are plenty of brothels in the area that people can go to . . . whatever your biological needs are, there are other ways which they can be satisfied without creating this hideous environment." |
