A child cries at night after being put to bed, and her parents come to her room to comfort her and
calm her down. She calms down in the short term but now cries more atbedtime. This is an
example of:

a) Negative punishment for child and positivereinforcement for parents
b)Positive reinforcement for child and negative reinforcement for parents
c) Negative reinforcement for child andpositive reinforcement for parents
d) None of the above

explaination:

The child is reinforced for crying with attention, which is a rewarding stimulus and thus it is likely to increase the child’s crying behavior and the cessation of cryingis negative reinforcement for the parents because it is the removal of an aversive stimulus, the sound of crying, and as such is likely to increase the parents comforting behavior.

Alma would hit other kids at Daycare. The teacher made Alma stop playing and sit on a
chair in another room for two minute. Alma stopped hitting. This is an example of:

a) Negative reinforcement
b) Positive reinforcement
c)Negative punishment
d) Positive punishment

This is an example of negative punishment because the behaviour of hitting resulted in the loss of the opportunity to play which is an rewarding event and this is likely to result in the decrease of hitting behaviour

Instinctive drift is
a)     A partial reinforcement effect
b)     Reinforcing behaviour after a fixed interval
c)       When innate tendencies override learning
d)     A secondary reinforcer

In some instances instinctive behaviours are stronger than learned behaviours and as such can override learned behaviours. This is known asinstinctive drift.
