今天看到一个职位：
Java Senior Technical Consultant | F.S. | Sydney
My client is a well established global, software development and solutions provider in the Financial Services industry - Super/Life Insurance/Wealth Management
They are currently in need of an experienced technical consultant/solution designer to work as a client facing resource in Sydney to further develop & implement solutions based around the Java environment.
The ideal candidate will have good solid experience in the vendor and/or consulting space with a holistic view of development and implementation - end to end process.
Key Responsibilities
* Development of software and coding using Eclipse, Java/JEE 5+, related services and frameworks, Web techs and JSF, Seam
* HTML, CSS, Hibernate and Java-based JAX-WS and JMS
* Troubleshoot and issue solving of defects, application and technical environment problems
* Strong experience and ability to de-bug code and to identify and fix defects or data issues
* Develop/execute effective unit & function tests for all software changes
* Support Technical Testing activities related to performance, integration, platform and security
* Working with B.A's, Senior Developers and Technical Consultants,
* Complete software analysis, design and estimation activities for enhancements
* Work with Technical Architecture team to design and implement the required Software Architecture for the application, ensuring key application attributes are achieved inc quality and reliability as well as security
* Support/assist Development Leads/Managers, Project Managers and SDM's to organise and plan development activities and tasks over set periods
* Provide mentoring and technical training of Developers, Business Analysts and Test Analysts in the team
* Write Technical product & training material
* Provide technical input and direction to Configuration Management, Software Build and Release methods, processes and tools
* Understand, follow and champion technical and quality standards/procedures
* Competently use project and team systems (JIRA, Confluence, EPM, Lotus Notes, Subversion and Anthill Pro)
Required Skill Set
Technical
* Core Java, Java Swing, Java Web Start, JEE 5 and above
* Java Frameworks and services such as JAAS, JDBC, JMS EJB
* Web Services using SOAP, JAX-WS, JAXB, XML, JMS
* Web development using , XML, XSL, JSP, JSF, HTML, CSS
* Supporting Open Source Java frameworks, utilities and applications - XUL, Jasper Reports, Apache FOP, Apache Log4J, Apache Commons, Log4J, Trove, EHCache, JGoodies, Swing Binding
* Object relational bridging - JDO, EJB, Hibernate
* Java development using Eclipse Platform with related tools and plug ins including Apache Ant, Subclipse, TestNG,
* Web & Application Servers including JBOSS and Tomcat
* Sybase ASE, Oracle and MSSQL tools, services and utilities
* SQL, Entity-Relationship design and Relational Databases concepts
* OO design and development methods
* Refactoring Code & use of design and code Patterns
* GUI application development principles
* Source Control with Subversion, Subclipse
觉得职位描述和自己的经验挺匹配的，于是打电话过去聊了一下。打电话之前当然做了点功课，把自己的经历按照JD整理了一下，打了个谈话的草稿，然后就raise the call了。
寒暄+一轮自我推销过后，对方问我目前在澳洲什么公司做，我说自己刚从中国过来，目前还在找工作。
然后他就很客气的说，这个职位可能不适合你。客户公司要很资深的人，要有丰富的local experience和极强的communication skills，因为要和客户建立密切的relationship。但他觉得我的资历很不错，他手上还有几份工作，可能会更合适我。于是就让我把简历发过去给他。
我听他说完后，很有礼貌的解释说，其实自己在来澳洲之前，在马来西亚工作了一年多，期间和很多Indian，Malaysian and Hong Kong 同事一起工作，交流上没有任何问题。对方也很坦诚，直接告诉我说，这份工作要求的communication skills，probably beyond new immigrant's capability，然后再次让我把简历寄过去，说Sydney和Mel有更适合我的职位。
btw，他也够直接的，连我对职位的工资要求都没有问。
谈到这个份上，我也只能感谢他的坦诚，并且答应回头就把简历发过去for your consideration。
几点感想：
1. 这类technical consultant的职位，是否都特别强调local experience and strong communication skills, which probably beyond new immigrant's capability？这样说来，咱新移民（特指登陆不到2年的），就算技术上如何自信，碰到这类职位都只能无语路过了？
2. 日后投简历前，都要先打电话过去聊一下，如果情况不对，就干脆别投了。 |
