标题: Become a doctor-Medical School (Graduate Entry)-GAMSAT
Hi all, has anyone sat GAMSAT ((Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test) or heard of it? I am thinking about applying medical school (graduate entry-4 years). Desperate to find someone who can share experience or who has the same interest.

I've heard of GAMSAT, not so Challenging, but the most Challenging thing is UMAT and the interview, if your english (both spoken and writing) is not outstanding, don't even bother wasting your time because it is very difficult to pass UMAT.

Thank you Rebecca for your information. The difference bwt UMAT and GAMASAT is that UMAT is taken as an admission test for the high school leavers, while GAMSAT is for person who has already hold a degree in any other subject...so to get an offer you either sit UMAT or GAMSAT, but definitely not both of them. However I can still imagine the competition for any medical school admission will be very very very tough....plus English will be hugh disadvantage for us in interview...Therefore I call for a group study.
Challenges make things more interesting right?

Hi Jamth and Flora,

Thanks for your information. There are about 10 unis in Australia offer an accellerated medical courses (4-4.5) years. Though different schools have different selection creteria, the admission will be based on your bachelor degree results (credit above), GAMSAT result, and an interview. For more detailed information, please refer to GAMSAT website.

OK, let me sort this clear.
According to Changhai, the GAMSAT is a test for someone who has never studied medical courses before.
Well, this applies to me. Although i am insterested in medical things, but i've never got a chance to study it.
I am now working as a network engineer in a major telecomm company in Au, and i am still thinking of medical study. Yes, many years passed, i still have passion not worn out, and still in awe of human body.
I am thinking how i could get myself an update.

有兴趣，但是4年下来，学费就N多的。而且是full-time。学了医，一定是全部精力都用上才行，就干不了别的了。吃饭都是问题啊！

The interview I heard is very very tough, most people fail not even know what went wrong.
They ask many many questions, they pick up every aspect of yourself.
The cost of study is not an issue, short of time is a real problem.
The reward is obvious to be a doctor, particularly a specialist.

Good to know you are interested, then maybe it is a good chance for us to do it together! We all need a bit of push from each other.
The competition is definitely tough, but if you are really interested, it won't hurt you more to give it a go than to spend years and years hesitating.
The first step toward your dream of becoming a doctor is to spend one or two hours in http://www.gamsat.acer.edu.au/
After you all get a better idea about the admission of this medical course and the test, let's work out a structured preparation plan.

这个课程是给原来不是医学背景的本科生准备的。如果原来是医学背景根本不需要读这个课程。英语过关后直接进入海外医生考试。

而且gamat的入学考试比较难，考的内容很多。最后还有面试。

我认识的同事一个以前是COP，现在是SPECIALIST.
还有一个是护士，现在也是医学专家。
都是本地人。

这两个同事是什么时候开始学医的，已经成为specialist, 说明这已经是近10年以前的事情了？十年以前他们也要考Gamsat吗？

听说一个读完这个课程，找到了工作的。但是相比AMC考试，费用高，周期又长，不大划算

我在AD, 也想考09年gamsat, 买了官方的3本样题, 做的效果不是很好, 所以想体统的学一下几个部分, 有没有什么具体的参考书可看? 网上有推荐Des O'Neills 课程或medprep 课程, 但不知其效果好不好, 而且我是做fulltime程序员的,时间也不多了.

大家好，
有一段时间没有看这个帖子，很高兴还有新人对GAMSAT感兴趣。
汇报一下我的近况，通过两年的学习，我的护士课程马上就要结束了....时间过得很快呀....GPA成绩我还比较满意，应该为申请医科学校打下了个不错的基础。
目前我已经收到一个手术室护士的Offer, 这也是我第一个preference，因为工作和病房护士比起来轻松，所以可以把更多精力放在GAMSAT上。
迫不及待等到毕业后就可以全力以赴准备GAMSAT了。到时再和大家联系

Jamth,很遗憾你没有收到Offer.但是真的很佩服你的做事效率。在这么短的时间内就去参加考试，而且考出了很高的成绩！我想这次失利是不是更加激发你对学医的渴望呢？：）希望有机会可以向你请教一下准备考试的经验
你是用中国学历的成绩计算GPA还是澳大利亚的学历？如果是澳大利亚的话在GAMSAT的官方网站上有一个on-line calculation可以帮助你算出你的GAP
如果你用中国的学历，那他们会个案分析，所以很难讲。具体的一些问题，请看下面的链接

学医，也意味着sacrifice

Thank you for your reminder. I agree with your metaphor. The Wall, marriage and some careers have kind of Irresistible attractions to people who are outside and some kind of constraints or boresome to insiders.

Being an extremely curious, energetic, and optimistic person, I will try to knock into the wall, after I have well enjoyed the outside world.

Section 1 is humanity and sociology reasoning. Not only articles and poetries, there was even a chart of energy-consuming flow for Inuits in GAMSAT 2009, which is very difficult to interpret. The whole section contains many uncommonly used words, even for those whose first language is English. It reminds us that even after we came here, we still need to positively and actively study English and other new things.
Section 2 is not easy either. Producing two reflective/discursive essays within 1 single hour is not as easy as it sounds. However, what you say and how efficient you express yourself are more important than which word you choose to use, in another word, more important than how big your vocabulary is. It is not supposed to favor native English speakers.

。真的我认为最后一部分是最简单的了，知识不知道，学习了就可以掌握，不过写作和文学就很难在短时间内提高了，我发现他们用的好像不是原始分，而是百分比，这第一部分至少要答对多少题才能有50啊

It took too long time to read those horrendously long articles and even longer to make sense what it actually talked about, and some of the choices were very ambiguous.

My score was 51, 54, 75. Section 1 and 2 were both worse than last year

I am thinking Flinders or Griffith.
UNDF/UNDS/UoW value your volunteer work and connections with rurality, which I don't have.

情况不怎么样。

我去年试了一次，只得了55分，在52%的位置，大概要在70%以上才有可能被录取。去年换了新工作，一直没有时间学习，今天刚刚才把复习资料找出来，不过所剩时间不多了，还在考虑今年要不要报名。

Did it yeaterday. Didn't feel too bad. Writing this year is easier: happiness/wealth, multiculturalism/globalisation. Part 3 is always the most difficult one. I think everyone who wants to sit GAMSAT need a good preparation on Bio and Organic Chem IN ENGLISH !!!
