Just by chance I saw some great deals at ALDI for someone who is just thinking of bushwalking/hiking from time to time.

Ten Tex (other than GTex) hiking shoes $29.99
Hiking Day pack $19.99
Hiking pack of 40L + 10L $69.00.

It is less than $100 for hiking pack of 40L (plus addition 10L) and TTex hikng shoes.

My current hiking day pack is 40L.
