可持续性地开垦花果菜园
可持续性地开垦花果菜园最近在开荒，准备整整院子，看到了一篇文章，分享一下。有些观点和方法和我现在做的不太一样，
例如草不要割的太短，用割下的草作为覆盖来保持养分和水分；
尽量不要把绿色垃圾简单的扔进green bin区填埋，而是要把他们用来堆肥。。。
有兴趣的tx可以一起讨论下
Mulch
覆盖物，护根
Mulching your garden and pots helps to retain water, addnutrients, reduce weeds and pests, and protect your plants:
用Mulch覆盖花园有助于保持水分和营养物，抑制杂草和害虫
·
Mulch with a good layer of organic material – up to 50mm thick
·
Mulch in winter or spring following rain so moisture is retained
·
Avoid mulches that are derived from a finite resource likewashed river pebbles
不要用非再生的原料例如水洗河卵石作为Mulch
·
Use good quality mulch with a mix of large and small sizedmaterials
用质量好的大小尺寸兼有的材料 Lawns
草坪
Effective maintenance of lawns will ensure you get the most out of them:
• Mow your lawns on a high setting (80-100mm). Left at higher lengths, the grass grows slower, needs less mowing, will recover quicker and will be more weed resistant
把割草的高度设高一些，80到100毫米。草留下的越高，长得越慢割草的次数就少，草坪恢复得更快，更抗杂草。
• Let the grass clippings fall back onto the lawn. This helps put nitrogen back into the soil and retain water
把剪下的碎草留在草坪上，这会有助于氮回到土壤中，同时有助于保持水分
• Grow warm season turf grasses such as Couch and Buffalo
种植暖季草皮草，例如Couch和Buffalo
• Brown grass does not equal dead grass. Most lawns will naturally recover

• Consider using alternatives to petrol powered mowing equipment, such as battery powered or even the old-fashioned push mowers that do a great job and give you a workout at the same time

How do you know if you have created a sustainable garden? If youmaintain regular mulching and composting you should not need fertilisers. Ifyou do need to fertilise your garden:

Use organic fertilisers such as home compost, liquid seaweed, ormanures

Whenever possible avoid using pesticides altogether; insteadfocus on good maintenance through pruning and mulching. Diseases are usually asymptom of poor plant health. Find out what the problem is before applyingchemical control.

There are a large variety of companion plants that assist incontrolling pests and diseases. Try planting garlic or nasturtiums in betweenfruit trees and vegetables to deter fungal diseases and insect pests
有形形色色的伴生植物可以有助于控制病虫害。试着在果树和蔬菜间种一些大蒜或者旱金莲，可以阻止真菌和虫类病害。

如果鸟多了，人就没得吃了．很有用．我就是打算把所有的草用来做ＭＵＬＣＨ．
想把隔壁割下来的草也用上．上次看他割了好多，而且没有杂草的．没好意思要，下次一定要张口要了，反正他们也是倒垃圾了． 唉，理论上都很好。 实践起来具体困难很多啊。
这几天苹果熟了，用了两层网，鸟还是能迟到。 昨天三个苹果掉下来，还是被网兜着，还是被鸟吃了最红的一半。 :Q
一月就最后一天下了一次雨，2月到现在一次没下。 要不是有遮阳布，不知得用多少水。

是啊，而且鸟都吃果子了，他们还吃虫子吗！
