I really agree with you on this. After day-to-day's sharing time together, I felt emotionally attached to the residents under my care. When their time came, I was usually the one to suffer the most from lossing them, rather than some family members, who hadn't showed up for a long time. Sometimes, you would get verbal abuses from them, or even physical abuses, but you would never take it hard because they're seriously demented. They acted like 3-year-old most of the time, but they know how to attach to you if you treat them nicely and patiently. This is when you really feel your job is rewarding, because you have made some difference in somebody's life, especially the life towards the end. You feel like you are an angel to make that tunnel towards heaven fearless and peaceful. |
