Not really as you said, under some conditions, you still can lease out your whole flat! such as your oversea employment, MOP > 5 years. blabla... What's more you can partially sublet your HDB (without any constrain as long as you dont squeeze in too many ppl) if you like.
And one thing to be aware: most of the time, your rental (even you just partially rent out your HDB) can easily cover the monthly installment maybe with some surplus also. On the other hand, this situation definitely can not been seen in Australia (unless your investment house has been down paid over 60%)! |
