Adjustment of DIAC's fees and visa application charges (VACs) usually occurs each year on 1 July. The last adjustment to fees and visa application charges took effect from 1 July 2006.
Most fees and VACs are adjusted annually in line with changes to the Consumer Price Index. This will result in an increase of 3.5% for the 2007-2008 financial year. The exception is Contributory Parent Visas, where the cost for second visa application charges will increase by 7.6%. This is the value of the Contributory Parent Visa Composite Index for 2007-2008, as published by the Australian Government Actuary.
Annual adjustment of visa application charges and fees
From 1 July 2007, immigration law will be amended as part of the annual adjustment process, resulting in an increase of many fees and charges under the Migration Regulations 1994 and the Immigration (Education) Regulations 1992. The annual adjustment process is done in accordance with government policy, the Migration (Visa Application) Charge Act 1997 and the Immigration (Education) Act 1971.
