Australia is no.1 for small business – world bank report

A World Bank report ranking Australia as the easiest country in which to start a small business has been welcomed by the Minister for Small Business and Tourism, Joe Hockey.

“According to the report a new business in Australia could be established in less than two days, with just two steps,” Hockey said.

“This compares very favourably to the OECD average of seven steps to start up a small business that required 30 days.”

“This report places Australia well above countries such as the United States that required five steps and four days, the United Kingdom, six steps and 18 days as well as Japan (11 steps and 31 days), France (10 steps, 53 days) and Germany where it took 45 days to complete the required 9 steps.

Hockey undertook to further reduce the “red tape burden” on Australia’s 1.1 million small businesses.
